Berkeley, Gloucestershire
Berkeley has given the world a murdered king, the first vaccine and a nuclear power station, and carries on as if it never did anything bigger than a decent village fete. The castle where Edward II was probably done in still runs the skyline, Jenner's garden still has his hut, and the old reactors by the Severn have been sealed in concrete and left to think about what they've done. The railway's route across the river ended when a ship drove into the bridge, which is the sort of bad luck most towns would at least put on a tea towel. Even the local witch needed the Devil and a spiked horse to get out of here.
