Accessibility
Last updated 26 September 2026
We want everyone to be able to use this site, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader or magnification. This page says how far we have got and where we still fall short.
What we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the whole site.
What we have checked
- Every page can be used with a keyboard alone. A “Skip to content” link comes first on every page, and the map has its own link to skip past it.
- You can always see where the keyboard focus is, and it moves somewhere sensible when things open, close or zoom.
- Text meets the AA contrast ratio of 4.5 to 1, including where it sits over the photographs on the home page. On the map, a focused area or district stands out from its neighbours by at least 3 to 1.
- Pages work on a screen 320 pixels wide without scrolling sideways.
- The home page slideshow has a pause button, and the slideshow and the map keep still if your device is set to reduce motion.
- Buttons, links and form fields have names a screen reader can announce, and anything hidden on screen is hidden from screen readers too.
- Every page declares that it is in British English, so screen readers pronounce it correctly.
Where we fall short
- The map is a picture of postcode areas. You can move around it with a keyboard, but the same places are easier to browse as text on the places page and the postcodes page.
- We did these checks ourselves, with automated tests and by hand with a keyboard and browser tools. No outside auditor has tested the site, and neither has a panel of people who use assistive technology every day. If you are one of those people, we would especially like to hear from you.
Tell us about a problem
If something here is hard to use, email hello@beforeibuy.co.uk. Tell us which page, what went wrong, and what you were using, such as your browser or screen reader. If you need something from a page in a different format, ask and we will do what we can.
