Dursley

Powered the world, now powers the school run·Gloucestershire·South West England

Dursley used to build engines that went round the world, and it's now building houses on the factory site that made them, which is the standard retirement plan for an English factory town. The locals called the branch line the Donkey until it was shut, and when a station finally came back it was billed as Cam and Dursley, with the neighbour's name first. Stinchcombe Hill looms over the lot like a landlord waiting for the rent. Dursley carries on underneath it, a market town that has outlived its own industry and stopped taking it personally.
