Wotton-under-Edge

The Cotswolds, with a hill working the door·Gloucestershire·South West England

Wotton-under-Edge is the Cotswolds with the coach parties filtered out by a steep hill and a missing railway. New Mills got rich in the Napoleonic Wars by supplying both sides, and the town has kept that talent for staying on good terms with everyone. A branch line to the town was approved in 1899 and never built, so the commute is still a matter of faith and the B4058. People who need a station within walking distance last about a winter, and the ones who stay have accepted that the Cotswold Way is the most reliable route out.
