Stonehouse, Gloucestershire

A wool town that now runs on yoghurt·Gloucestershire·South West England

Stonehouse got its name in 1086 for having a manor house made of stone, a bar the town cleared early and has seen no reason to raise since. Its bricks built a clock tower in Buenos Aires and went to Gibraltar aboard the Lusitania, and the brickworks that made them is now a housing estate, which is about as Stonehouse an ending as history could write. It is where people who priced up Stroud end up, with the same valley at the back door, a station of their own and the motorway close enough that nobody has to pretend they don't commute.
