Tewkesbury

A medieval town the rivers keep visiting·Gloucestershire·South West England

Tewkesbury was built on the few rises that keep your feet dry, and has spent nine centuries watching the Severn and the Avon argue over everything else. The medieval street plan has outlasted the Wars of the Roses, the railways and the M5, mostly because there was never anywhere dry enough to put a replacement. The trains stop two miles away at Ashchurch, which is either poor planning or the most sensible thing anyone round here has ever done.
