Bishop's Cleeve
Bishop's Cleeve still calls itself a village, in the way a man with three cars and a ride-on mower still calls himself a bit of a country type. The highest hill in the Cotswolds stands at the back fence, and plenty of residents admire it through a windscreen on the way to Cheltenham. The houses arrived mostly in the eighties and nineties, one cul-de-sac at a time, which is how the place ended up with the street plan of a town and the self-image of a parish fete. Cheltenham gets the Regency terraces; Bishop's Cleeve gets the driveway.
