Bredon

Kept the tithe barn, binned the trains·Worcestershire·West Midlands

Bredon is a Worcestershire village with a Gloucestershire postcode, and it has spent a thousand years being run by somebody who lived elsewhere. The Bishop of Worcester kept a summer house and fisheries here until the Crown took them off him. The railway left in 1965, and six years later the motorway turned up to make sure nobody missed it. Residents now get the hill on one side, the Avon on the other and the M5 within earshot, which is the price of getting to work faster than any bishop ever got to his fish.
