Royal Tunbridge Wells

A spa town that kept the airs and lost the waters·Kent·South East England

Royal Tunbridge Wells made its fortune from a spring that tastes of rusty nails, persuaded a Stuart queen it was medicine, and has been politely furious about something ever since. The town is so famous for writing to newspapers in a state of disgust that half of it now does it ironically, which the other half finds disgusting. People still promenade down the Pantiles, only now they're holding a flat white. Hardly anyone says the "Royal" out loud, but everybody knows it's there, the way you know about a good pension.
