Paddock Wood

Tunbridge Wells on the letterhead, lorries out the window·Kent·South East England

Paddock Wood is a Victorian hop town that the railway turned into a warehouse with a high street attached. The line splits it down the middle: takeaways and the station on one side, lorries and a distribution centre on the other, and nobody pretends the two halves have much to say to each other. Tunbridge Wells is in the borough's name and nowhere in the atmosphere, which is exactly why buyers who wanted the spa town's address but not its prices keep turning up here. The river has opinions about all of it, and it has never waited to be asked.
