Yalding

Yalding sits where three rivers meet, and none of them has ever agreed to stay where the estate agent's photos left them. Edith Nesbit called the Medway here a river of dreams, which is an easy thing to write when you're staying at the George and not insuring a cottage by the bridge. That medieval bridge has outlasted a Civil War battle and every winter since, and it's still the best-looking thing in the village. Come for the view, and buy it from somewhere a few feet higher up.
