Brenchley

A village where the quiet is priced in·Kent·South East England

Brenchley is the Kent village people describe when they tell friends they're leaving London, right up until they meet the lanes. It once held its market in the churchyard on Sundays, until 1230, when somebody decided that trading among the graves on the Sabbath was pushing it, and the place has been keeping up appearances ever since. Even the old workhouse is listed now, which tells you how seriously this corner of the High Weald takes anything with a tiled roof and a past. Come for the views and the quiet, and learn to reverse a hundred yards for a tractor without taking it personally.
