Hildenborough

A commuter village that stopped leaving the house·Kent·South East England

Hildenborough is the bit of Kent the A21 goes around, and the people who live here take that as a compliment. The railway turned up late, and the village has since drifted a mile away from its own station, so every commute starts with a walk the estate agent will call a lifestyle. In 1940 a German radio operator bailed out over the village, landed on a tea room roof and was served tea and cakes while the owners waited for the police. Hildenborough has been refusing to make a scene about anything ever since.
