Pewsey

Named for dry ground, and the river begs to differ·Wiltshire·South West England

Pewsey is a village with its own mainline station, and it carries itself accordingly. King Alfred stands on a plinth in the middle of the place, looking as ready for the London train as everyone else in a gilet. The carnival has run since Victoria was on the throne and takes a full fortnight, which tells you how much room the rest of the calendar leaves. Downs on every side, a fast train out, and nobody here moved for the nightlife.
