Marlborough, Wiltshire
Marlborough is a working market town with a very expensive school parked on its western edge, and local legend puts Merlin's bones under a mound in the college grounds, so even the wizard went private. The high street gets billed as the widest in England, which it isn't, and nobody in town has ever let that spoil a Saturday market. The place burned down often enough that Parliament stepped in and banned thatch, and it has been fussy about roofs ever since.
