Hayling Island
An island reached by one bridge, inhabited largely by people who have already done their commuting and would rather not start again. The windsurfer was invented here in 1958 by a twelve-year-old, which remains the most strenuous thing most residents have any intention of doing. It is Bognor Regis with better postcodes and a flood map, Sandbanks for people who recognised they were never going to be Sandbanks, and nothing whatsoever like Whitstable, which is the entire point.
