Cosham

Portsmouth's mainland exit, dressed as a 1950s semi.·Hampshire·South East England

Cosham is what happens when Portsmouth runs out of island and has to admit it lives in Hampshire. The high street does Greggs, three London-bound trains, and a milepost from 1793 that the council demolished the cottages around in the 1960s to make a car park, which tells you everything about how the place understands its own heritage. King Æthelred the Unready was reportedly dying here when Cnut invaded, and the suburb has been quietly handing out the same energy ever since.
