Greenford

Where the factories left and the A40 stayed·Greater London·London

Greenford gave the world mauve and has dressed itself in beige ever since. The pub where the Who first played under that name is now a block of flats and a Texaco, which is about as sentimental as Greenford gets about anything. Lyons invented Ready Brek here, and the old factory is now an industrial estate you only visit to pick up a parcel. Buyers come for the Central line and the interwar semis, and they get the A40 with both whether they asked for it or not.
