Wembley
To most of the country Wembley is a stadium with a postcode attached, and on event days the people who live here get reminded which of the two is in charge. The rest of the week it is a patch of north-west London busy turning council offices into flats and its old Sunday market into a designer outlet, which counts as regeneration because the cranes are new. The local station spent a century renaming itself to sound more like Wembley, an ambition the High Road gave up on somewhere around the opening of Brent Cross.
