Is Wembley a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Wembley.

Wembley is safer than the borough around it, and safer than a place built round a national stadium has any obligation to be. Recorded crime runs about a fifth below the Brent average. Around a hundred crimes per thousand residents. Violence makes up a smaller share of it than it does nationally. The district famous for crowds turns out to be fairly well behaved when they go home.

The Metropolitan Police's published figures put Wembley's crime rate at about 101 per 1,000 residents in the year from June 2025 to May 2026, roughly 22% below the Brent average. Across that year 6,598 crimes were recorded in the area. The rate is calculated on its own statistical population base, so it is the figure to quote, and the count is there for scale.

Set side by side, the gap is plain. Brent as a whole runs at about 130 crimes per 1,000 residents over the same year, against Wembley's 101. The borough's higher number is being made in other parts of it.

The setting makes that result more striking. Wembley packs in about 11,800 people per square kilometre on average, about 24% of households are overcrowded, and unemployment stands at about 4%. None of that sets the crime rate on its own, but a district this dense and this busy could easily have run hotter than its borough, and it runs cooler.

The mix is where the detail sits. Violence and sexual offences make up about 26% of recorded crime here, against about 35% across England and Wales, and that category is a broad legal grouping that includes common assault without any injury. Anti-social behaviour accounts for about 20%, a little above the national 16%. Drugs offences are the outlier at about 10% of the total against about 4% nationally, though a drugs count rises whenever officers go looking, so it measures police attention as much as anything happening on the street. Other theft at about 7%, shoplifting at about 7% and public order at about 6% all sit close to their national shares of 7%, 8% and 7%. For a buyer, the category that frightens people most is the one Wembley has least of, relative to everywhere else.

After a report, the picture belongs to the force. The Metropolitan Police charges a suspect in about 10% of cases, against about 12% nationally, over the year from June 2025 to May 2026, and ranks 33rd of 42 forces on that measure. About 53% of its cases close with no suspect identified. Those are London-wide numbers covering every borough the Met polices, and they answer whether someone gets caught, a separate question from whether anything happens in the first place. On that first question, Wembley's own number is the more reassuring of the two.

Safety is one of Wembley's real strengths, with a crime rate well under its borough's and a smaller share of violence than the national mix. The stadium draws the headlines, and the streets around it stay calmer than the reputation.
