Willesden

North-west London's favourite place to change trains·Greater London·London

For two hundred years Willesden drew pilgrims who came to bathe their bad eyes in its holy well, and estate agents still count on buyers seeing it the same way. Thomas Cromwell burned the town's Black Madonna on a bonfire in 1538, but the faith lives on in buyers who were outbid in Kensal Rise and now tell their friends that a long walk to Queen's Park is the same as living there. Its stations straddle two fare zones, so even the Underground has never decided which bit of London Willesden is. The bus garage has been sending people off to somewhere more certain of itself since 1902.
