Cricklewood
Cricklewood's name roughly means "hill hill wood", so the place has been repeating itself since the thirteenth century and sees no reason to stop now. Most people only see it through a windscreen on the Edgware Road, on their way to a smugger postcode, and never learn how fast the train from here gets into St Pancras. Alan Coren spent a career treating it as his Wessex, which is the only time anyone has stood on Cricklewood Broadway and thought of Thomas Hardy. Two councils split it down the middle, and neither has ever fought very hard for custody.
