Ampthill
Ampthill's name comes from an Anglo-Saxon word for an ant-infested hill, and the hill is still crowded, mostly with people who arrived years ago and have no plans to leave. Henry VIII parked Catherine of Aragon here while he got rid of her, and the town has stayed a very comfortable place to avoid change ever since. The station closed in 1959, so the trains stop next door in Flitwick and Ampthill keeps the Waitrose, the Georgian market place and the prices. Flitwick got the platform; Ampthill got the address people say slowly at dinner parties.
