Maulden

Ampthill's car park with better lawns·Bedfordshire·East of England

Maulden is close enough to Ampthill to borrow its shops on a Saturday and just far enough away that everybody drives there to do it. The village once quarried sandstone and plaited straw for a living, and its main industry now appears to be keeping the bungalow lawns edged to a standard the parish council could inspect. There used to be a pleasure fair every August. The pleasure is still taken, though these days privately, on the driveway, with a bucket and the second car.
