Wrecclesham

Farnham's postscript, with better school runs·Surrey·South East England

Wrecclesham became a village in its own right in the Victorian era and has been writing Farnham on its envelopes ever since. Farnham kept the castle and the Georgian shopfronts, while Wrecclesham got the secondary school, so a good chunk of Farnham's teenagers trudge every morning to a place their parents only mention when someone asks for a postcode. The A325 runs straight through the middle, taking garrison-town traffic past detached houses that nobody driving it could afford. Jonny Wilkinson and Graham Thorpe both started out on the recreation ground here, and the visitors still head for the castle.
