West Wickham

A Kent village London swallowed and never digested·Greater London·London

West Wickham is the London suburb that still writes Kent on its envelopes, and the inter-war semis lined up along every road suggest nobody has seen much reason to change anything since about 1935. Its best-known landmark was an elm tree that got moved out of the way of some sewer pipes, then blew over in a storm, and a piece of it is now on display in the library. That is roughly the level of drama on offer here, and the people who bought in chose it on purpose.
