Southwick

Brighton's postmark, none of the postcard·West Sussex·South East England

Southwick is the bit of the Sussex coast that Brighton residents drive past on the way to somewhere they think is more interesting, which is exactly why the people who live there like it. It sits between the harbour and the Downs doing an impression of a small town that hasn't heard about Hove's opinion of itself, and mostly getting away with it. Charles II slept here on the way to France, which is the kind of local history most places would put on a plaque and Southwick puts on a green nobody hurries across. The town knows what it is, which is more than can be said for the postcodes either side of it.
