Hassocks
Hassocks is where Brighton's professional class moves when the second child arrives and the flat in Kemp Town starts feeling like a hostage situation. It sits at the foot of the South Downs, an hour from London Bridge, close enough to Ditchling to borrow its scenery and far enough from Burgess Hill to feel superior. The village exists because in 1841 someone built a railway station next to a toll gate. Everything since has been houses turning up to be near the trains.
