Kingston Bagpuize

Spelled like a sneeze, bought like a sensible decision·Oxfordshire·South East England

Kingston Bagpuize is pronounced "bag-pews", and the people who live here gave up correcting everyone else a long time ago. A Norman knight lent it his surname after 1066, and nearly a thousand years later most drivers know it only as the junction where the Oxford to Swindon road crosses the Abingdon to Witney one. It runs into Southmoor with no field in between, so the residents of both have a border to argue about and everyone else has no reason to slow down. Even the grand avenue of trees was cut back for a wartime airfield, and the ones at the east end are still a head shorter than the rest, the most Kingston Bagpuize way imaginable of losing a war you won.
