Faringdon
Faringdon was Berkshire's westernmost town until the map was redrawn and made it Oxfordshire's, and it has carried on as though nobody passed the message along. It sits on the road between Oxford and Swindon, close enough to commute to either and far enough from both to pretend it doesn't. The Fairtrade signs tell you about the town's conscience; the traffic on the bypass tells you how it gets to work. The Tuesday market still turns up every week, which is more than anyone can say for the trains, whose old station now minds toddlers.
