Hartley Wintney

A postcard that expects you to wipe your feet·Hampshire·South East England

Hartley Wintney is the village people mean when they tell a London colleague they've moved somewhere with a proper cricket green, and it has one, with the A30 running past it. The oaks on the common were planted to build the Navy's warships and grew up around the time the Navy switched to iron, so they have stood there ever since, fully qualified and never called up. The High Street sells antiques to people whose houses are already full of them. Nobody here is in a hurry, including the trees.
