Hook, Hart
Hook is a town that still calls itself a village, the way someone who hasn't played in a decade still calls themselves a five-a-side regular. It started as a handful of coaching inns for people on their way somewhere else, and with a main-line station and its own junction onto the M3, it has kept that tradition going with impressive loyalty. After the war the planners looked at Hook for London's overspill and picked Basingstoke instead, so Hook spent the following decades building the estates anyway, just without the town centre to go with them.
