Halfway Houses
Halfway Houses is named for being on the way to somewhere else, and it stopped apologising for that a long time ago. It sits on the low, flat stretch of Sheppey between Sheerness and Minster: bungalows, driveways and a sky that goes on longer than most conversations. Nobody ends up here by accident, because getting onto the island at all means crossing a bridge on purpose. The sea wall does the worrying so the residents don't have to, which works fine until a buyer reads the flood map.
