Eastchurch

Pirate country, now with better perimeter fencing·Kent·South East England

Eastchurch was the home of British aviation, which in hindsight was the island's first honest review: the thing people remember doing here is taking off. The airfield became prisons, and the village settled into being the sensible middle child of Sheppey's east end, with Warden up on the cliffs and Leysdown handling the caravans. The village website still leads with pirates and smugglers, which is a bold pitch for a parish where the most secure housing on the island belongs to the Ministry of Justice.
