Minster, Swale

Bungalows on a cliff that keeps leaving·Kent·South East England

Minster is where Sheppey keeps its bungalows and its cliffs, and only one of them is moving. The waves keep pulling the clay down onto the beach, which is great news for fossil hunters and less great for anyone who bought the sea view thinking it came with a lease. Speculative builders carved the place up early last century, the sea has been redrawing the boundary ever since, and nobody here seems in any hurry to make a fuss about either. People don't come to Minster to be seen, and that's exactly why they stay.
