Bracknell
Bracknell became a new town after the war mostly because its land was too poor to be worth farming, and it has been spreading into the fields that were worth farming ever since. Catherine of Aragon was sent to Easthampstead Park to wait out her divorce, which makes her the first in a long line of people who lived here while their real life was being decided somewhere else. On some estates the planners were so pleased with themselves that they dropped the Road and the Avenue altogether and gave the streets single names, like pets or footballers. The villages next door still get Bracknell on their envelopes and take it personally, which says more about the villages than about the town.
