Bagshot

Highwaymen once, commuters now, same getaway road·Surrey·South East England

Bagshot was built to be driven through, and four centuries on the A30 is still doing it. The old coaching inns date from when stagecoaches stopped here long enough to change horses on the way to Devon, and most drivers still give the place about that much time. Royalty keeps a house behind the trees in Bagshot Park, and the village's best-known local was a farmer turned highwayman who paid his debts in gold until someone asked where the gold came from. Money has always passed through Bagshot; the trick has only ever been getting it to stop.
