Bexleyheath
Bexleyheath is where south-east London does its big shop and still quietly tells people it lives in Kent. The Romans ran Watling Street straight through it on their way to Dover, and the town has spent the centuries since lining that road with shop fronts and calling it a destination. William Morris built his palace of art here, sold it five years later to save money and said he could never bear to see it again, which locals prefer to read as heartbreak.
