Welling

A London town still sending Christmas cards to Kent·Greater London·London

Welling has been the place you pass through on the way to Kent since Watling Street was a Roman road, and its three old coaching inns are what's left of the first business plan. The second business plan was interwar semis, and it worked so well that Bexleyheath now runs into the town without anyone noticing the join. Kate Bush grew up in East Wickham and went off to write about Yorkshire moors, the most honest review of the local scenery anyone has managed. The most aggressive thing on the high street is a Crimean War cannon at Welling corner, and even that is on loan.
