Belvedere, London
Belvedere is Italian for "beautiful view", which is a big promise from a town that looks out on Canary Wharf from the top of the hill and on a sewage works and an incinerator from the bottom. Upper Belvedere got the Victorian villas and the pubs, Lower Belvedere got the station and the industry, and each half seems to think the name was meant for it. Somebody, almost certainly an estate agent, tried to rebrand the nice bit as Nuxley Village. The local driving test centre once had the lowest pass rate in Great Britain, so even getting out by car is harder than it looks.
