Aston Clinton
Aston Hill gave Aston Martin half its name, and the driveways of Aston Clinton have spent a century trying to earn the other half. The Romans crossed two roads here, the Rothschilds built the schools, and the bypass finally dragged the A41 traffic round the back, which left a village at the foot of the Chilterns with very little to do except extend. Aylesbury has the shops and Tring has the station, and Aston Clinton worked out long ago that both are perfectly good things to drive to.
