Who lives in Aston Clinton?

For anyone buying or renting in Aston Clinton.

Aston Clinton is home to comfortably off, middle-aged homeowners and the children they are raising. Eight in ten own. The typical resident is in their mid-forties. Four in ten hold a degree. The weekend's biggest decision is which hill to walk up.

At the 2021 census, which supplies every population figure on this page, about 81% of households across the Aston Clinton area, Weston Turville included, owned their home outright or with a mortgage. Private renters made up about 8% and social tenants about 9%. Council and housing association tenants slightly outnumber the people renting from private landlords, which makes the buy-to-let investor one of the rarer sights on the canal.

The median age is 46, and about 23% of residents are aged 25 to 44. That is a narrow band for the age group that buys most family houses, and it fits a market where a detached home costs what it does. People tend to arrive here mid-career, with the deposit already saved.

Median household income was about £72,000 before tax in the financial year to March 2023, a figure the Office for National Statistics models for the area. That buys a comfortable life in most of England and a careful one in a village where a detached house runs to six figures before the first digit gets interesting.

About a quarter of households are couples with dependent children, about 8% are lone parents, and about 22% are people living alone. Within that last group, about 10% of all households are pensioners on their own, which goes some way to explaining the bungalows along the side roads.

About 42% of adults hold a degree, about 11% have no formal qualifications and about 2% are full-time students. The two ends of that range share the same school runs, the same bus stops and the same arguments about the parish council's hedges.

People here describe themselves as healthy, with about 87% reporting good or very good health at the census. Across Buckinghamshire as a whole, the public health figures compare well with England: the county's smoking rate is about 8%, better than the national picture, and its rate of preventable deaths is also better than England's.

Aston Clinton's population is one of its strengths: mostly homeowners, mostly healthy and mostly well paid, with families and older residents sharing the village fairly evenly. Anyone looking for young neighbours or a student crowd will have to drive to Aylesbury for them.
