Aylesbury

The Buckinghamshire the postcards politely crop out·Buckinghamshire·South East England

Aylesbury is the county town that spent the 1960s knocking down its own old houses to make room for shopping, then built so many estates around the outlying farms that the hamlets now need a sat nav to find themselves. The line from Marylebone ends here because there is nowhere further to go, which commuters have decided is a feature. The Great Train Robbers were sentenced in the town, and an exiled French king spent four years at Hartwell waiting for something better to come along. Plenty of people who buy here know the feeling.
