Ringmer
Ringmer is what happens when a village realises being three miles from Lewes is close enough to feel superior and far enough to avoid actually seeing anyone from Lewes. James Callaghan retired here, which tells you everything: a place where a former Prime Minister could live for twenty-six years and the most exciting thing that happened was the windmill falling over in 1925. The mill body collapsed and the post stayed standing for decades afterwards, which is basically Ringmer's whole personality in one image. Beautiful, quiet, structurally committed to not going anywhere.
