Peacehaven

A grid of bungalows staring at Brighton's back.·East Sussex·South East England

Peacehaven is what happens when a man in 1916 buys a lump of clifftop, tries to name it after a battle nobody wanted to remember, and gets sued by the Daily Express for running a competition that turned out to be a scam. The town has been apologising for its own origin story ever since, mostly by not having one. It sits on the Greenwich Meridian, which is the sort of fact a place clings to when the alternative is admitting it was built out of second-hand army huts and old railway carriages by people who couldn't afford Brighton. Same coast, half the swagger, and a grid layout designed by someone who'd clearly been to America once and never got over it.
