Buxted
Buxted is the village a Prime Minister picked up and moved down the road because it was spoiling the view from his house, and it has kept a tactful distance ever since. The church refused to budge, which tells you who in the parish had the better connections. England's first cast-iron cannon came out of a vicar's furnace here, and the name later ended up on supermarket chickens, so the place has always been better known for what it sends out than for itself.
