Horam

A railway village still waiting for its train·East Sussex·South East England

Horam grew up around a railway station, lost the station, and carried on as if nothing had happened, which tells you most of what you need to know about the temperament. Beeching took the trains, and the line that built the village is now the Cuckoo Trail, where people walk the dog. The village renamed itself between the wars, the station held out on the old name for years, and the dialling code still hasn't picked a side. Heathfield is up the road for anything urgent. Horam is for people who have decided nothing is.
