Heathfield, East Sussex

Where the High Weald comes to downsize politely·East Sussex·South East England

Locals call it Heffle, which is about as much ceremony as Heathfield has ever wanted. The railway was pulled up generations ago and turned into the Cuckoo Trail, so now the Lycra rolls south towards the coast and everyone else sits in the car wondering where their train went. On the edge of the parish, within living memory, someone built a moated medieval manor with a working drawbridge, which is the most candid thing anyone in the High Weald has said about how they feel about newcomers.
