Crowborough

Winnie-the-Pooh's forest, now with cul-de-sacs·East Sussex·South East England

Crowborough is a handful of hamlets that grew into each other and never agreed on where the middle is. Victorian estate agents sold it as "Scotland in Sussex", and that line has aged about as well as most things estate agents say. The station sits at the bottom of the hill in Jarvis Brook, so every commute starts downhill and every evening ends in a climb. The man who invented Sherlock Holmes spent his last two decades here, which tells you it's the sort of place people come to finish things rather than start them.
