Uckfield
Uckfield is the end of the line, and the railway made it official when it stopped running trains any further. Pilgrims used to break their journey here for a slice of pudding cake on the way to somewhere holier; now the bypass lets the rest of Sussex skip even the cake. The people who live here took the hint and prefer it that way. The campaign to reopen the line to Lewes has been running so long it deserves a listing of its own.
